Impact of overseas podcast inclusion immediate in first Podcast Ranker of the year.

The first Australian Podcast Ranker results for 2020 published by Triton Digital show the immediate impact the inclusion of overseas podcasts by Whooshkaa and ARN’s iHeartPodcast Network have had.

American podcasts Stuff You Should Know, My Favourite Murder, Oprah’s SuperSoul Conversations, Freakonomics Radio and Stuff You Missed in History Class entered the Ranker at 1, 3, 7, 13 and 15 respectively.

Recent bushfires meant that news podcasts still ranked highly with NewsCorp/Nova’s From the Newsroom, Schwartz Media’s 7am and Sky News – News Bulletin (also a Newcorp/Nova podcast) all in the top ten.

Catch up radio saw gains and losses. Kate Tim & Marty remain at the top of the local catch-up podcasts, with Kyle and Jackie O jumping up 6 spots to be right behind them.

Three Triple M/SCA catch ups were in the top 20 with Kennedy Molloy highest at 14.

Hamish and Andy dropped from first place to 8th, but with new podcasts this week may well be reinstated next ranker.

The Ranker measures the top 100 most downloaded podcasts from the 20 January through 16 February 2020 reporting period.

ABOUT THE AUSTRALIAN PODCAST RANKER
The Australian Podcast Ranker lists the Top 100 Australian podcasts from participating publishers that are consumed by listeners located in Australia.
There is potential to add further data by publisher and program in the future. Additional publishers will also join the ranker.
ABOUT THE METHODOLOGY
The Australian Podcast Ranker is based on a 4-week reporting period. The entities listed are ranked by Average Weekly Downloads (Monday to Sunday) in accordance with the latest IAB Podcast Technical Measurement Guidelines.
Downloads are defined as unique file requests that were downloaded.
This includes complete file downloads, progressive downloads, as well as partial downloads in accordance with the IAB Podcast Measurement Technical Guidelines v2.0 filtering rules (i.e. spiders and bots, data centers, one-minute of content minimum download, etc.). “Unique” filters multiple requests from the same IP address, user agent, episode, and date.
