James Hird to join Triple M Footy this weekend

After a 20-year radio hiatus, Essendon champion James Hird will return to Triple M, this time as a regular of the footy call team.

Hird appeared on Triple M’s Hot Breakfast with Eddie, Wil and Darce this morning for an in-depth interview, during which he announced he will be joining the Triple M footy team.

The former Essendon coach, two-time premiership player, Brownlow and Norm Smith medallist was last heard on the MMMs in the late 90’s when he was one-third of Pig, Jimmy & Roo Boy with Jason Dunstall and Wayne Carey.

This Saturday, he will be reunited with Carey behind the mic to provide expert analysis, along with Brian Taylor, Barry Denner, Ash Chua and Jay Clark, on the round 2 clash between his former club Essendon and St Kilda at Marvel Stadium.

Triple M’s AFL Content Director Ewan Giles said, “It’s a privilege for Triple M Footy to have one of the greatest players of the AFL era join our team. James has one of the sharpest footy minds and will be a massive asset to the call team.

“I’m absolutely confident that James’ stint on Pig, Jimmy and Roo Boy will only be mentioned in a positive light and that none of our call team will ever bring up his bad 90’s fashion. Especially Duck.”
