Jason Morrison departs 7NEWS, rumoured to land back in radio. You won’t believe where!

After eight years heading up the 7NEWS Sydney newsroom, Jason Morrison is leaving the role and the network.

The Seven Network’s Director of News and Public Affairs, Craig McPherson announced the departure saying,

“I want to thank Jason for his tireless efforts over the past eight years. He leaves the team in very good shape as we move home base and into a new era for 7NEWS. He departs Seven with tremendous goodwill and best wishes for his next venture.”

McPherson also announced the appointment of Neil Warren to replace Morrison in the role of Director 7NEWS Sydney, with current Deputy News Director Michael Coombes to replace Warren as Director 7NEWS Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Both Neil Warren and Michael Coombes take on their new roles Monday, 19 June.

Nick Tabakoff in The Australian (subscription required) speculated that Jason Morrison is set to head back into radio and specifically to a Head of Radio role at the ABC, but Morrison’s long time friend and confidant Ray Hadley kiboshed that idea on 2GB Monday morning saying Morrison was “simply exhausted” and making the decision for family reasons.
