Jazz lovers will dig new ABC internet radio station

ABC Radio has launched another on-line internet radio service for Jazz lovers called dig JAZZ. The second dig channel came on line at the Wangaratta Festival Of Jazz.

With the success of
dig radio – which was launched three years ago – it is expanding with genre-based 24 hour a
day programming, beginning with a non-stop jazz service.

Dig JAZZ was launched by Australian jazz pianist and composer, Paul
Grabowsky
during the festival.

dig JAZZ promises a “diverse mix of classic and contemporary jazz performances and styles,” from the jazz
heartland of America and the ever-growing global jazz scene to the many great Australian
stylists. dig JAZZ will include music from across many eras and styles.

As well as the music, dig JAZZ will also provide information about the music being played,
including the performer and album details, plus its release date. Listeners will also be able to
discuss each song through the dig JAZZ music forum.

On dig JAZZ listeners will find links to features, concerts and news that will introduce them to new
releases, interviews, live performances and other specials.

Manager of ABC Digital Radio Tony Walker (pictured above) has told radioinfo:

”It’s appropriate and exciting for the ABC to be offering this new service to Australian jazz fans.

“dig Internet Radio has proved to be tremendously popular with fans of a wide range of
music styles that don’t often get much airplay elsewhere, and now we’re delighted to be
broadening dig’s role and appeal with it’s first specialist music service – dig JAZZ.”

As part of the festivities for the launch, six-piece Australian instrumental outfit Wanderlust performed at the Playhouse Theatre in Wangaratta last month. Hosted by Paul Petran from Radio National’s Live On Stage, the concert was simulcast
on Radio National and through dig JAZZ.
