Jesse and Juelz fight for change

Last weekend HitFM WA’s breakfast team Jesse & Juelz held a series of simultaneous free women’s self-defence workshops in various locations across regional Western Australia.

The workshops, ‘HitFM WA’s Fight for Change’ were held on Saturday 24th November  was held in Bunbury, Northam, Esperance, Albany and Kalgoorlie to help raise awareness about Men’s Domestic Violence against Women and to arm women with realistic, can-do strategies to make a difference in their lives and community.

The campaign, which coincided with White Ribbon Day, was a massive success with an overall attendance rate of 70%.

With the support of the communities involved  and with the help of volunteers, HitFM WA was able to host a free 1 hour self-defence class for woman in which a professional trainer taught the attendees some basic self-defence techniques at each location.

There was also a range of guest speakers from local domestic violence services and the police that highlighted the services available in that area and some tools and techniques that can be used to help someone who may be in a current DV situation.

Jesse & Juelz said ”It was inspiring to see so many women within the community come together to help acknowledge and highlight the issues around domestic and to make a real difference to fight for change, The feedback received on the day was very positive and we hope to run the workshops again next year.”
