Jim Campbell’s 45 years in radio

4WK Toowoomba’s breakfast announcer Jim Campbell celebrates 45 years on air In commercial radio this week, a significant milestone.

His former GM and PD Kane Martin tells radioinfo about Campbell’s career:

Jim grew up in Kurri Kurri, just outside Newcastle, and was raised by his grandparents. He grew a love for radio at a very early age, his first job came as Cadet Panel Operator at 2NX Newcastle. His first on air position as an Announcer was at 4CA Cairns in 1970. His long standing career has taken him across three states NSW, QLD and WA.

Over the past 45 years, Jim was worked at 17 stations during his career to date, but he considers the pinnacle of them all to be working for 2HD… an honour to be on air as a jock in his hometown.

Jim has spent more than the last ten years working at 4WK Toowoomba and in 2007 was rewarded with and promoted to the Breakfast position by then Program Director Kane Martin, a position he still continues in today.

Jim has also been greatly supported during his career by his wife Dianne, often working together on air at different stages over the years and being a vital part of his career success.

Jim is the ultimate professional, a radio man down to his boot laces, he has always prided himself on staying relevant and makes a point of growing, regardless of how long he has been around this industry. He takes nothing for granted, works hard and is easily the most enjoyable person I have ever had the pleasure of firstly working with as a colleague, then years later managing as his Program Director and eventually his General Manager.

Jim has dedicated his life to radio and it is my pleasure to mark the occasion of his 45th Anniversary on radioinfo.
