John Blackman on Magic Melbourne

Last week radioinfo reported on the changes at Melbourne’s Magic 1278 following the Fairfax/Macquarie Radio Network merger.  As you’ll recall, the entire Magic on-air lineup left the station, apart from Breakfast co-host Jane Holmes.

MRN’s Chief Operating Officer Adam Lang said, “We remain strongly committed to Melbourne and our audience…(and) during the survey break period we will, as usual, have fill-in presenters…”

Well, the survey break finished on Saturday, and radioinfo was curious to know who is on-air this week.  The Magic 1278 website didn’t provide us with any answers, so we tuned in and heard a very familiar Melbourne radio voice on breakfast.

John Blackman.

Blackman has been a big part of Melbourne radio since the early 70’s, hosting various shows on 3AW, 3AK, and 3UZ.  Since around 2012, he has also popped up as fill-in host of 3AW’s night show.  We also reported earlier this year that he will be on-air with Wave FM Wollongong’s Hot Breakfast

But does his appearance on Magic breakfast during the first week of the new survey mean he’s the new breakfast host?

radioinfo understands that Blackman is not there permanently, and it seems that Langs’ plan of fill-in presenters during the survey break looks like extending a bit longer.  We also noted there were still no presenters on-air following Blackman this mornning.

MRN is due to make an announcement on the Magic 1278 line-up shortly.
