Kalamunda Community Radio finds new home

Kalamunda Community Radio KCR 102.5 may have found a new home following the Shire’s decision at Monday’s Council Meeting to offer KCR the opportunity to lease 36 Collins Road Kalamunda.

As reported previously on radioinfo, the Kalamunda Shire’s only community radio station has been in search of a new home after receiving a letter from WA Police advising that Landcorp will sell the current home of the station at 17 Mead Street in Kalamunda.

Kalamunda Shire CEO Rhonda Hardy confirmed that the Radio Station’s management committee has met with the Shire and that the two parties have been discussions regarding an alternative location:

“KCR may have the opportunity to lease the new premises at 36 Collins Road providing they can obtain sufficient external funding to assist with establishing a suitable facility fit for purpose. The Shire is pleased to be able to support the radio station which plays a key role in providing the local community with an independent voice.”

KCR Chairperson Neil Mackay says station management is very thankful of the Shire’s support and is delighted by the positive outcome of Monday night’s meeting:

“Our members have certainly been concerned about the sale of Mead Street, which the station has operated from for more than 10 years.”

“The existence of KCR-FM as a community radio station is important because it is a vital communication tool which serves the community and allows individuals and groups to have their voices heard. The Shire of Kalamunda is home to an uncommon diversity of people, with a variety of lifestyles, all living and working side-by-side. KCR-FM is aware of a large number of listeners, and the music and programme styles reflect that diversity of the community.”

“We certainly would hate to see the station have to close, and have commenced discussions to raise the necessary funds to relocate. We encourage members of the community to consider joining KCR and welcome support from residents, community groups and local businesses.”

Kalamunda Community Radio is a member based volunteer run, non-profit, community radio station which broadcasts a diverse range of music from all eras, genres and countries.
