KIIS101.1’s Jase Hawkins on suspected COVID flight to Melbourne

An unfunny thing happened on Jase Hawkins’ flight to Melbourne on Saturday.

He didn’t know it at the time, but there were two German dual citizens, a mother and son, on the same flight who had bypassed the checkpoint at the international arrivals hall at Sydney airport that should have routinely forced them into mandatory quarantine.

Instead, they stepped straight onto a Virgin domestic flight to Melbourne with 170 passengers, including Jase Hawkins. He vented his anger on Instagram at having been told to immediately self-isolate at home due to the selfishness of the two passengers.

He was particularly upset that he had to tell his four year old son that he’d have miss his best friend’s birthday party that he’d been looking forward to for weeks. At time of writing, it seems unlikely that Jase will join PJ on KIIS on Monday morning.

The SMH reports: The 53-year-old woman and 15-year-old boy are in hotel quarantine in Victoria, where they are the first occupants of the state’s rebooted program.

Their initial COVID-19 tests have returned negative, but they will remain in mandatory 14-day quarantine and will be tested again on Monday and day 11 of their quarantine.

Victoria’s Department of Health and Human Services said 174 close contacts from the flight and five staff from Melbourne Airport had been identified as close contacts and advised to self-isolate.
