Kochie’s next move into radio?

After the somewhat surprise announcement of David Koch, affectionately known as Kochie’s decision to quit Sunrise this morning, everyone has been speculating about his replacement.

I’m not. I’m thinking about what radio show he’s heading to.

67 year old Kochie has been helming Sunrise for 21 years, very successfully.

He said,

“After 20 consecutive premierships in the breakfast TV ratings game, I’m frankly finding it harder to get off the ground to take those marks, and I think it’s time to bring through the next generation.”

Koch is likely to still pop up on Sunrise on RBA Board meetings days and when the budget is handed down. He’s also stated that he wants to spend more time with family and on the family business he and his wife Libby own, Pinstripe Media. There’s also his role of Chairman of the Port Adelaide Football Club.

But….

After his former co-host Melissa Doyle’s very, ahem, smooth transition to radio, I wonder if Kochie, who was speculated to have around a year left on his contract, is eyeing off a smaller intensity role in a space that suits his many interests, perhaps somewhere like the soon to be launched Disrupt Radio? Kochie already has plenty of radio experience, he previously presented breakfast on 2GB.

Kochie has given just two weeks notice.
