KOFM’s Tanya & Steve G launch with $20,000

KOFM’s Give Me 5 For Kids was launched today, raising money for the John Hunter Children’s Hospital with KOFM Breakfast’s Tanya Wilks & Steve G conquering their biggest fear – heights.

A cold and drizzly Hunter Stadium was the setting, as Tanya Wilks and Steve G were raised in a scissor lift, more than X metres from the ground. The purpose was to ask Newcastle to pledge their donations in order to get them safely down.

Tanya, Steve, Ryzy and their EP Nicky braved and the weather and had the best view of the busiest road in Newcastle.

In just two hours, between the hours of 7am and 9am $20,070 was raised to help purchase 16 Air/Oxygen Blenders for the John Hunter Children’s Hospital.

NSW Regional General Manager Ashley Myatt said “We’re delighted that Newcastle and the Hunter region got together to support Give Me 5 For Kids. We wanted to leave Tanya and Steve up there all day but for OH & S reasons we did have to get them down!”

The team were returned to the ground soon after 9am after cracking the big 20k in pledge donations.

Shaun Hassall Newcastle Permanent’s CEO said: The morning was a great success and the atmosphere kicked-off a great start to the month. Our Newcastle Permanent team is now gearing up to raise more funds for Give Me 5 For Kids, so come see us Friday 3 June at any of our local branches for Pyjama Day!’

95.3SR FM involvement in the Give Me 5 for Kids fundraiser is part of parent company Southern Cross Austereo’s (SCA) campaign, which launched in the mid 90s as a simple coin drive.  Since then, the campaign has raised more than $14 million nationally, and utilises SCA’s network of over 40 regional radio and television stations to drive donations. It is rolled out in June each year.
