Kyle pays out on ‘nicest guy in radio’

Few people have a bad word to say about smoothfm presenter David Campbell

But Kyle Sandilands has built a career on being one of the few rather than part of the many.

Campbell who, at the age of 12 found out he was Jimmy Barnes son, is one of Australia’s most versatile performers. Apart from being a fabulous singer with a wide range, an accomplished actor, Channel 9 host and regular presenter on the smoothfm network, he also happens to be one of the nicest guys in showbiz.

Kyle is the co-host of the highest rating FM breakfast show in Sydney.

Once upon a time the two were friends. Now, not so much.

The falling out goes back six years when Campbell criticised Sandilands for his now infamous ‘fat slag’ comments that were the subject of an ACMA inquiry.

In an opinion piece in the Sydney Morning Herald, Christine Sams says “Kyle Sandilands is back in bully mode. Campbell stood up for what he believed was right – he reportedly called Sandilands a “douchebag” for the sexist comments – and he is still being publicly bagged for it, six years later.

“Sandilands’ on-air radio rant about Campbell has included comments such as “if someone’s an arsehole, I’ll call them out”. He said he wanted Campbell to come on his show to be “slapped with a dead fish.

“This David versus Goliath, oops, Kyle battle is a perfect example of a bully continuing to use his public profile to shame someone who had the tenacity – and the guts – to stand up for something he believed in,” writes Sams.
