Ahead of Kyle Sandilands‘ 54th birthday show producer ‘Intern Pete’ Deppeler teased a huge surprise on KIIS 101.1 and 106.5 socials and station advertising across the long weekend, one that would render Kyle speechless.
The surprise was a guest. Kyle’s nemesis, Steve Price. If anything Jackie O was more shocked that Steve had not only agreed, but actually come into the studio. After Steve greeted the ‘grubby buffoon himself’ and said he was there because he was paid to be, Steve, Kyle and Jackie mostly good naturedly threw zingers at each other with the audio containing so many bleeps that I’m not sure of half of what was said.
After many rumours Network 10‘s The Project, a program Steve is a part of and where he initially called Kyle a buffoon after the Kyle and Jackie O Show’s launch into Melbourne, has been axed.
Kyle: What happened at The Project? When did this happen? Because we’ve heard these rumours forever. And now it’s true?
Brooklyn Ross: You were starting those rumours, Kyle!
Steve: I was listening to you at about 6:06am this morning. You celebrated the fact that show’s gone. 80 people lost their jobs yesterday.
Kyle: Oh well.
Steve: So, I think you’re a very nice man. Deep down, deep down. Right deep down. And you would feel for those people.
Kyle: I think most of those people will probably move on. Not the presenters, but most of the back staff will end up in the new show.
Steve: Not in Melbourne. It’s too hard. Anyway, we’re getting far too serious.
Jackie: What’s your issues with Kyle? And Kyle, what’s your issue with Steve? Let’s get that out on the table.
Kyle: Mine’s petty. I was annoyed about what Steve said about the show [on the Project when it syndicated into Melbourne]. Not that he was completely wrong, mind you, but I was annoyed. Based only on the fact that years and years ago, when the media were kicking Steve and they wanted him fired, people wanted him fired. He did this, he shouldn’t have done that. We had him on and I said, I don’t think anyone should be fired for something that happens outside of the workplace. And therefore, I needed that to be paid back in in 100% faithfulness.
Steve: He’s an extraordinary talent and he lets all this sex stuff, which has obviously worked for you two –
Kyle: Everyone has sex!
Steve: No, it’s worked for you two, so you cling on to it. You’re far too smart a man, and Jackie’s a far much smarter woman than to have to do all that stuff. You work without that.
Kyle: But why hold ourselves back because of a couple of oldies that are pearl clutching?
Steve: That’s not a couple of oldies. I mean, if you want to work in Melbourne, for the three people listening to us down there now –
Kyle: By the way, you can throw the insults out, but we’re 180,000 people away from winning. So, it’s quite closer than normal.
Steve: It does worry you?
Kyle: It doesn’t worry me.
Steve: Don’t pretend it doesn’t.
Kyle: No, I don’t pretend. We’re not changing the whole show to suck Melbourne’s d***.
The Kyle & Jackie O Show can be heard from 6am to 10am on KIIS 1065 in Sydney, KIIS 101.1 in Melbourne, or on the free iHeart App. GfK Radio 360 Survey 3 is out next week, Tuesday June 17, at 9:30am.
