Lindy Burns leaving ABC Melbourne and returning home

Lindy Burns won’t be returning to the microphone in 2019.

The ABC Radio Melbourne Evenings presenter has deciding to return home to Newcastle to spend more time with family.

She made an emotional announcement on air saying that the loss of her mother and her brother’s diagnosis with cancer on the same day earlier this year came as a double shock.

Following conversations with ABC management, Lindy decided to return home to support both her brother who in undergoing chemo, and her 83-year-old father.

The broadcaster has spent seven years presenting Evenings, and six years as host of ABC Melbourne’s Drive show and while she has said she would miss her audience and her colleagues at ABC Melbourne, she has planned a series of on-air appearances before the end of the year.

She will present a special Melbourne Cup broadcast on November 6 with guest correspondent Matt Preston reporting from the Birdcage and will then sign off with a series of outdoor broadcasts in regional Victoria in the first week of December.

Her replacement is expected to be announced in coming weeks.
