Lock it in Triple M, Eddie’s back

Triple M Melbourne has now officially confirmed that Eddie McGuire has been locked in for the new breakfast show. He will be joined on-air by former Western Bulldogs champion Luke Darcy, former SBS sports broadcaster Mieke Buchan, plus comedian Tony Moclair.

The new breakfast format will be led by Executive Producer Jay Mueller, who this week moved from 3AW’s morning show to Triple M.

Eddie and his team begin on air this Monday 7 September from 6-9 am weekdays with a basic philosophy: “if it happens in Melbourne, it happens on Triple M’s Hot Breakfast.”

Eddie McGuire says he is loyal to the radio station where he got his start, so when the opportunity came to have another go with Triple M it definitely sparked his interest:

“With Triple M’s Hot Breakfast we’ve come up with a formula that’s going to deliver something unique to Melbourne. The name of the game is having an insider’s point of view – if something happens in this town you’ll hear about it on our show.

“The breakfast shows in Melbourne are the best in Australia by far, but we believe there’s still a significant vacuum. Triple M’s Hot Breakfast will fill that hole with an innovative way of bringing breaking news to listeners.

“There are a lot of opinions and a lot of rumours out there. What we’ll have is the facts, the key players will be guests on our show. We’ll have a fantastic roster of regulars and insiders who can tell us what’s going on.

“We’ve got a great team in Luke, Mieke and Tony – we’ve got the experts and we’re going to have a lot of fun, we won’t lose Triple M’s comic edge. We’ve also got the head start in AFL – we have the top rating footy coverage so the major religion in Melbourne is taken care of.

“We’ll have great music too, some of the old Triple M tracks might have scared people away, we’re not going to disenfranchise our loyal listeners but we’ll broaden it out a bit.

“We want Triple M’s Hot Breakfast to be a show that if you haven’t listened to it by the time you get to work you’ll be a lap behind.”

McGuire has long been a popular voice on radio, with Triple M footy and being involved in two number one breakfast shows. Eddie began with the station in 1998 on the highly successful D Generation morning show followed by the Richard Stubbs Breakfast Show.

In 1994 he created and hosted ratings success The Grill Team, Australia’s first radio program to combine sport, comedy and personalities – a formula that will apply to Triple M’s Hot Breakfast show with an added emphasis on current affairs.

Austereo Melbourne General Manager Ben Amarfio has told radioinfo:

“We’re ecstatic to have Eddie back at Triple M. There’s a lot of excitement surrounding Triple M’s Hot Breakfast and the fact that it will deliver a highly unique FM breakfast show for Melbourne. We’ve worked hard to get the formula right and the dynamic has fallen nicely into place.

“Triple M is renowned for its sport and rock format – the new show will have undertones of that traditional style but will surprise and entertain in new ways, attracting what we believe will be a very diverse audience.

“It will be interesting to monitor the impact that Triple M’s Hot Breakfast with Eddie has on Melbourne breakfast radio as a whole.”

Eddie says there’s now a reason to tune into triple M again. Listen to his promo at the link below.
