Longreach stations sold to two famous radio families by a third

In a strategical acquisition, Resonate Broadcasting which owns 4GC & Hot FM Charters Towers, has added neighbouring stations 4LG and West FM Longreach to their stable after completing the purchase from Radio Outback Pty Ltd, owned by Ann and Dave Robertson. Resonate is privately owned by two of Australia’s best known family  names in radio programming with Rex Morris and Sally Dobson on the Board of Directors.

For Rex Morris it is somewhat of a reconnection to the area that holds significance for his family. His father was born to the south of Longreach at Isisford, while his aunt, Jen Morris had her own career in local media as a typesetter for the Longreach Leader. His uncle, Peter Morris spent many years working from the building that houses the radio stations as the Secretary of the Queensland Graziers Association.

For Ann Robertson this means the end of her radio career after more than thirty years.  Ann says there will be more time for family and the grandchildren. Dave will continue with his involvement with commercial radio in Deniliquin and Wangaratta.

In announcing the purchase Sally Dobson (right) said, “We’re looking forward to building on the great work Dave Robertson has done with the brands, with a focus on developing local content, complemented by the best of the national offerings.”

While both directors have considerable industry experience, it’s the last four years as owners that they have developed the company philosophy of providing support and resources from a group level to set the foundations for local autonomy.
