Matt De Groot pulls the pin

…on his boxing career!

Nova Entertainment’s National Newsroom Manager AKA Matt “The Big Rig” De Groot has hung up his gloves after beating Luke Wesney in a fight for charity.

The Pitch2Punch event Friday night raised money and awareness for Beyond Blue.

So how does it feel to be a boxing champ?

“The official line is it wasn’t about winning and losing, but raising money for Beyond Blue. Which we did. And about fitness and learning a new skill. Which we did. And challenging yourself. Which we did…But winning does make it all the much bloody sweeter.”

But champ or not he has no plans to get back in the ring.

“I am undefeated as an amateur fighter, which is something Floyd Mayweather Jr. can’t say, but it’s time for me to announce my retirement from the sport. Boxing has given me so much, and now it’s time to give back – in the form of gloves, and shoes, and headgear. They can even have the mouthguard if they want it!”

A date with Matt was also auctioned and sold for $600.

“Can you believe that..! For that price, the poor thing is going to be wildly disappointed with what she’s won.”

Take a look at the unofficial vision of the bout.
