Media Watch highlights more “vile and tacky” stunts on 2Day’s breakfast show

“Apparently there are ‘principles and protocols’ that apply to Kyle and Jackie O. Well you certainly wouldn’t have guessed that from last Wednesday’s performance,” said ABC TV’s Media Watch, as the program analysed the Lie Detector incident and reviewed an earlier appalling example of “heartless exploitation.”

Media Watch presenter Jonathan Holmes reviewed the same details of ACMA’s codes and the action that must be taken to complaints as we did here on radioinfo last week, but took it further, looking at an earlier incident where 2Day’s breakfast show reunited a pair of former Cambodian refuges, only to almost deprive them of meeting to elicit maximum tears and pleading.

Media Watch pointed to the audio and video of the stunt on 2Day’s website, commenting:

“Well, the women did get their week together. And they’re grateful for that. But they both know they’ve been exploited. Dana Vann really thought she was going to be flown straight home.

“She told us:

“It was a little bit cruel how they twisted the emotion and pretty much used me and my want to see my aunt for their radio show. I was a little shocked.

“A little bit cruel? Sheer sadism is closer to the mark…”
