I have followed Michael McLaren since he started on the Mon-Fri 0000-0530 since Brian Wilshire's departure and the weekends 0900-1300 (during non-NRL season) or 1200 (during the NRLseason).
McLaren's intellectual rigour more-than-compensates than the kick-ass presentations that attracted high audiences.
This is reflected in the more than 20% ratings in both the Mon-Fri 0000-0530 and weekends 0900-1200(NRL)/1300(non-NRL) shifts.
It is also reflected in readers' comments in newspaper articles about 2GB's afternoon program wanting to hear Michael McLaren in the afternoons.
I hope Michael brings regular guests from both his programs to the afternoon show including Denis Shanahan and Prof. David Flint.
However don't do what is done on 2BL (ABC 702) relentless quizzes interspersed with banal talk.
Also please no talk about what listeners eat such as chocolate and sandwich fillings and selecting one of three music tracks to the exclusion of other tracks which reminded listeners of yesteryear.
This morning 30-11-2023 at 0942 on 2GB I was awaiting for the announcement of the new afternoon host on 2GB from January 20, 2024. Michael was meant to arrive earlier but was delayed due to the traffic flow teething problems of the new Rozelle interchange which is on the way to 2GB's studios.
Had Michael not been able to appear before the close of the 0530-0900 shift, the news of the appointment would likely be delayed another day.
This masthead has to honour news embargos. Nothing wrong with delayed gratification.
Thank you,
Anthony, by coincidence Brian Wilshshire once lived in the same house once occupied by my music teacher at Strathfield, isn't that exciting, Strathfield South, in the land of the Wangal and Darug Peoples of the Eora Nation
