Mick Raisin has decided to retire from radio and at 68 years of age is transitioning into retirement, effective November 20th.
Mick finishes his radio career at 7HOFM after 4 decades in the media, beginning when Ron Camplin at 2BS Bathurst gave him his first break as a copywriter in 1980, and he says it was a position “… for which I am eternally grateful. Ron and Janet Cameron have been 2 Broadcasters who I greatly admire!”
From there it was off to Sydney for 5 years with time Announcing, Producing and Writing at 2CH, 2KA and Rock of the 80’s 2SM,”before a ‘Tree change’ to 2AY/B104.9 Albury.
Rick Chapman and Gary Leddin in 2001, then gave the ‘copywriter’ a chance at management with 5SE/Star FM (Now Hit and MMM) in Mount Gambier, and “a time as well, thanks to Rhys Holleran, managing the then DMG stations in Port Macquarie.”
Mick continued with V/O’s and consultancy work with SCA until the Hobart gig came along, and he says it was a fantastic opportunity to work in Hobart, “To work with such a talented group of Radio Professionals. I thank Alison Cameron, Rick Lenarcic and Tim Holder, for this chance in Tasmania, a magnificent place to live and Grant Broadcasters, a great family business to work for, who love Radio and so value it’s importance to localism!
“Our success at 7HOFM has been very rewarding and a fitting curtain on 4 decades in the media, which have been a total blast!
“Ahh! – this wonderful phenomenon called “Radio” which shows such resilience and remains such an important part of people’s lives and with its advertising results, delivers such a critical part of businesses’ success.
“THANK YOU RADIO – Since 1980; never felt I worked a day in my life.”
