Mike Williams to debut audio documentary Wide World of Marrickville at the Sydney Fringe Festival

LiSTNR and former ABC podcast and documentary producer and creator Mike Williams will perform a new show called Wide World of Marrickville at the 2024 Sydney Fringe Festival.

This live audio documentary will feature true stories behind some of Marrickville’s iconic characters and locations in an innovative mixed media performance including live narration, music, and voices of the community. For those who know, Williams goes from Henson Park to Metro, stopping on the way at essential breweries and overpriced cafes to track down the suburb’s untold or oft told secrets and stories.

Williams said:

“Performing audio documentaries live has evolved a lot since my first show in 2016, when we brought a live goat on stage. These days there are fewer goats, but it’s always spontaneous.

Listening to docos is mostly done by yourself, in your earbuds, so any opportunity for communal listening is very special.”

Wide World of Marrickville will headline the first week of Emerging Artist Share House at Erskineville Town Hall from September 3-7. Tickets start at $18 and can be purchased here.
