MIX 106.5 Listeners Donate Record Amount for Sick Kids in Just Two Days

Listeners of Sydney’s MIX 106.5 have donated more than $338,464 for sick children in the space of just two days.

This is believed to be a record for such a radio fund-raising campaign.

The money raised goes to Variety, The Children’s Charity and will be used to purchase crucial mobility equipment for children in Sydney and other parts of New South Wales.

The International Vice President of Variety, Penny Docherty, said the money raised would enable Variety to continue to make a difference in the lives of thousands of children with special needs. She told RadioInfo: “The Radiothon will mean that our Christmas Party for 5,000 children and countless wheelchairs and electronic equipment will now be available to add to our tremendous list of grants in 2005.”

The general manager of Sydney radio stations for the Australian Radio Network, John Williams, hailed the generosity of listeners and business sponsors in ensuring the huge success of the Radiothon. He also paid tribute to the station’s staff and to volunteers who had donated their time to help.
