More DAB radios available in UK

More digital radios are becoming available in the United Kingdom.

At a convention in Bristol, Pure Digital announced several new receivers planned for listeners of the Eureka-147 DAB system.

Among them are the ‘Evoke-2 DAB radio,’ which adds FM, stereo speakers and battery operation to the
company’s existing Evoke-1. Retail price will be the equivalent of about $250.

The DRX-702ES tuner has DAB/FM/AM reception; USB connectivity; configurable
DAB station ordering; 99 presets on AM, FM and DAB; and an LCD screen. It can
be used with a standard hi-fi amplifier and retails for about $500.

The company says: “From PURE Digital, the world’s leading manufacturer of DAB digital radios and tuners comes DRX-702ES, a ground-breaking combination of DAB digital and analogue tuner technology. DRX-702ES uses the same advanced third generation DAB technology as its stablemate the DAB-only multi-award-winning DRX-701ES voted stereo tuner product of the year 2002 by the UK’s top three hi-fi magazines.”

The receiver features the latest third-generation DAB technology “for stunning audio performance and improved usability. Seamlessly integrating this latest DAB technology with hi-fi specification AM and FM radio, the DRX-702ES is perfect for radio enthusiasts who want to enjoy DAB digital radio and AM/FM without the clutter of separate DAB and analogue tuners.”

It features Fast autotune, using RDS to filter out weak duplicate stations, and then select stations by name – just like DAB. You can assign names to non-RDS stations. DAB features include selectable station ordering, 99 presets, fast autotune, scrolling LCD text and date and time display.
