More sport for ABC Radio Perth

With AFL season 2024 in full swing 720 ABC Radio Perth have provided listeners with Extra Time to talk about the sport. Hosted by Clint Wheeldon (pictured), Mitch Turner and former Commonwealth Games Hockeyroo gold medalist Ashleigh Nelson, Extra Time is on from 7pm Monday to Thursdays across the season.

The focus is on local sports. Expert analysis will be provided by former West Coast Eagle and Collingwood premiership player Sharrod Wellingham and news insights from  The West Australian’s Glen Quartermain. Listeners are invited to join in on the discussion.

ABC Perth Manager Danielle Benda is delighted to have more locally focused sports content, saying:

“We are keen to ensure that whatever Perth and WA is talking about, we are right there at the centre of the conversation. And we sure are talking about football – for better or worse – a lot at the moment. Clint, Mitch, the ABC sports team and their trusted experts are WA’s premier sports authorities and have a great tradition of setting the sports news agenda here in WA.

“I am really looking forward to hearing that extend into the evenings on Extra Time.”

Coverage of the Perth matches will also be extended after Eagles and Dockers home games.

“We’re going to stick with the coverage for as long as we can to make sure we get all the post-game action from Perth Stadium and give our listeners the chance to comment on the day’s play with some robust talkback,” Benda said.

Extra Time follows on from the Sports Entertainment Network’s (SEN) similar commitment to WA with more local content and an expanded broadcasting area for SENSpirit.

720 ABC Radio Perth’s Extra Time commenced on Monday April 8 at 7pm and is also available on the ABC Listen App.
