Mt Gambier to release first radio ratings in more than a decade

Radio stations 5SE and 96.1 Star FM in Mt Gambier in the southeast region of South Australia are set to be part of the region’s first radio ratings in more than 10 years.

The survey to be released on Tuesday (26 April), was conducted by Xtra Research and is one of 20 regional surveys to be undertaken throughout this year to provide up to date data on radio audiences across the country.

Mount Gambier is the commercial centre of south-eastern South Australia and includes the Coonawarra, one of Australia’s finest red wine producing areas.  The survey will provide valuable information for the stations and businesses in the area,Joan Warner, chief executive officer of industry body Commercial Radio Australia.

“A station like 5SE has been part of the community for more than 70 years, keeping the area informed about local issues and events.  This survey will put a focus on the importance of live and local broadcast radio,” said Ms Warner.

The radio industry introduced a new system for regional radio ratings last year, which allows smaller radio markets to undertake more regular, reliable and cost effective audience measurement.

Other regional centres to be surveyed this year include Bendigo, Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour, Bunbury and Townsville.

The survey in Mount Gambier was conducted from 29 March – 16 April, 2016.

The survey results will be available from 10am AEST on the Radio It’s A Love Thing website.
