Murdoch Shuts Norwegian Station

Rupert Murdoch’s Sky Radio P5 in Denmark will close on November 14.

Sky complained that it had been promised 78% coverage of the country when it was awarded its license but only got 63% coverage.

The station broke the state-owned Danish Broadcasting Corp.’s 78-year radio monopoly when it started airing its nationwide commercial FM radio network in 2003.

News Corp. has been paying an annual fee of 54 million kroner ($8.5 million) for the eight-year nationwide FM license.

The shutdown will lead to the loss of 65 jobs.
