New Edison podcast study released

Edison Media Research, the American company renowned for its detailed analysis of new media’s impact on radio, has delivered its latest insight into podcast usage trends at the Corporate Podcasting Summit in London.

Nearly 2000 telephone interviews were conducted and combined with data from the official Arbitron radio survey, revealing podcasting has made substantial gains in awareness if not in actual use.

Surprisingly, the research shows podcast users cross all demographics fairly evenly, the percentage of males outnumber females by just 2% (51%:49%), users are well educated and perhaps less surprisingly come from higher income brackets.

The figures were released just before yesterday’s wide availability of the Apple TV set top box which radically enhances both the audio and video podcast user experience.
