Nine and ARN celebrate a record number of finalists for the 2024 ACRAs

There are 71 ACRAs up for grabs at the 2024 commercial radio and podcast industries’ night of nights, with a record tally of finalists for ARN, Nine Radio, i98 FM and amplifyCBR. SCA also had an impressive 119 finalists across more than 60 categories, the ACE Radio Network 16 and Nova Network 41, including Jase & Lauren getting their first nod at their new station Nova 100 for Best On Air Team (Metro).

ARN had a record-breaking 133 nominations across 40 categories for the 35th Australian Commercial Radio & Audio (ACRA) Awards. KIIS 1065 alone had 19 nominations spanning content, promotions, marketing and for Station of the Year, the title they clinched last year.

In the Provincial categories 1029 Hot Tomato’s Galey & Emily Jade and Moyra & Big Trev were both nominated for Best On-Air Team, while in the country iteration of this category, Power FM Bega’s Brad & Hutzy, Magic 93.1’s Brooke & Bob, and Chilli FM Launceston’s Adam & Issy are all up for the top honour.

Katie Woolf OAM from Mix 104.9/Hot 100 Darwin has five individual nominations this year. Recognised yet again for Best Talk Presenter (Non Metro) and the prestigious Brian White Award for Excellence in Journalism, she won both the last two years, and in 2024 is also nominated for Individual Talent of the Year (Provincial), Best Current Affairs Presenter and Best News Event Coverage.

Nine Radio and 9Podcasts also broke their own record with 41 finalist nominations across 20 categories.2GB’s Ben Fordham, Ray Hadley and Chris O’Keefe and 3AW’s Neil Mitchell were all finalists for both Best Talk Presenter and Best Current Affairs Presenter. Tom Elliott is also nominated for Best Talk Presenter, Fordham and Hadley also contenders for Individual Talent of the Year, O’Keefe and 3AW’s Jacqui Felgate both the running for Best New On-Air Talent.

2GB is vying for Station of the Year, Content Manager Luke Davis for Best Content Director, with Fordham, Mark Levy, Will Bottom and Hadley nominated for Best News Event Coverage for their reports on the Bondi Junction Attacks and the Sydney Car Pursuit, respectively.

Poignantly in sport, the late David Morrow, Mark Levy, Anthony Hudson and Shane McInnes are all nominated in the Best Sports Presenter category. Morrow’s funeral was held this morning. The Continuous Call Team’s coverage of 2023 NRL Grand Final is a finalist for Best Sports Event Coverage.

SCA’s finalists were across the most categories with CEO John Kelly, saying:

“We are delighted with the scale and strength of the SCA network, which is well and truly on display with strong representation in many of the 2024 ACRA finalist categories. From more than 1,100 entries, SCA has achieved an outstanding 119 finalist nominations across more than 60 categories, and we are celebrating each and every one of them.”

NOVA Entertainment’s CEO Peter Charlton said:

Our finalists represent all areas of NOVA, including programming, marketing and commercial, which is testament to the fine work of these teams. It’s also fantastic to see our on-air talent acknowledged, including Fitzy, Wippa & Kate Ritchie, Ricki-Lee and the newest members of the NOVA family, Jase & Lauren.”

amplifyCBR, operator of Canberra radio stations Mix 106.3 and Hit 104.7, also celebrated an all-time record of 22 nominations including Content, Commercial, Promotion, Engineering, Digital and Station of the Year, which Mix won last year in the Non Metro category (pictured above).

The WIN Corporation’s i98FM team in Wollongong also received a record 10 nominations in 10 different categories.

Winners of the 35th ACRA awards will be announced at The Star in Sydney on Saturday, October 12.
