October has seen the commercial radio industry post its ninth consecutive month of growth in metropolitan advertising revenue. Total advertising spend climbed slightly to $62.303 million, up 0.54% on October 2012, according to the 2013 Metropolitan Commercial Radio Advertising Revenue, as sourced by Deloitte:
- Sydney was the strongest performing market, growing 3.15% to $19.293 million
- Melbourne climbed 1% to $19.009 million
- Perth rose 0.52% to $8.511 million
- Brisbane was up 0.15% to $9.986 million
- Adelaide was down 8.33% to $5.505 million
Chief Executive Officer of Commercial Radio Australia Joan Warner said: “Nine months of continuous growth shows that radio remains a reliable and valuable medium for advertisers in challenging market conditions.”
All metropolitan markets posted gains for the first four months of FY14:
- Melbourne led the way, up 6.75% to $73.446 million
- Perth was up 5.14% to $32.575 million
- Sydney rose 3.65% to $74.134 million
- Brisbane grew by 1.85% to $36.573 million
- Adelaide increased by 0.35% to $21.484 million
The Deloitte figures report actual revenue received by metropolitan commercial radio stations for the calendar month and include all metropolitan agency and direct revenue.
