Ninth consecutive month of growth for radio ad revenue

October has seen the commercial radio industry post its ninth consecutive month of growth in metropolitan advertising revenue. Total advertising spend climbed slightly to $62.303 million, up 0.54% on October 2012, according to the 2013 Metropolitan Commercial Radio Advertising Revenue, as sourced by Deloitte:

  • Sydney was the strongest performing market, growing 3.15% to $19.293 million
  • Melbourne climbed 1% to $19.009 million
  • Perth rose 0.52% to $8.511 million
  • Brisbane was up 0.15% to $9.986 million
  • Adelaide was down 8.33% to $5.505 million

Chief Executive Officer of Commercial Radio Australia Joan Warner said: “Nine months of continuous growth shows that radio remains a reliable and valuable medium for advertisers in challenging market conditions.”

All metropolitan markets posted gains for the first four months of FY14: 

  • Melbourne led the way, up 6.75% to $73.446 million
  • Perth was up 5.14% to $32.575 million
  • Sydney rose 3.65% to $74.134 million
  • Brisbane grew by 1.85% to $36.573 million
  • Adelaide increased by 0.35% to $21.484 million

The Deloitte figures report actual revenue received by metropolitan commercial radio stations for the calendar month and include all metropolitan agency and direct revenue.
