Podcasts are also increasingly valuing the music that accompanies the conversation, with Joe Gould’s debut album Nobody Joins a Cult, the first example I can think of where compositions were specifically created for Sarah Steel’s Let’s Talk About Sects, an independent Australian podcast which takes a deep dive into one cult per episode.

Let’s Talk About Sects had Gould’s original music for every episode. Usually dispersed as a score throughout the episode, for Nobody Joins a Cult, he regroups the themes into standalone tracks, resulting in an album of percussion-based post-rock.
