Parky to headline Radio conference: bookings now open

Renowned British TV host, journalist, entertainer and cricket fanatic, Sir Michael Parkinson will be the keynote speaker at this year’s Australian Radio Conference, to be held in Sydney on October 9. Click the link in this story to access the Conference and ACRAs booking form.

Sir Michael, is best-known for his TV chat show, ‘Parkinson’, where he’s interviewed over three thousand of the world’s most famous people over a 30 year broadcasting career. He brought his show to Australia in the 70’s and 80’s on the ABC and Channel 10. In the late 1990s, he returned to the BBC and then to ITV, to present ‘Parkinson’ once again – a series of tributes to some of the all time greats of the entertainment world.

His extensive broadcasting experience includes radio where he hosted various sports and entertainment programs including the most recent, Parkinson’s Sunday Supplement on Radio 2 which featured his favorite music and special guests.

He has received numerous awards for his work including Best Talk Show Host, Sports Writer of the Year and a BAFTA for Best Light Entertainment Performance in 1999.

He retired from the regular chat show and Sunday radio programs in December 2007 to write his autobiography, which was launched last year, called Parky. He also launched a website recently www.michaelparkinson.tv

Sir Michael will be speaking at the radio conference about his time in television and radio including anecdotes of his famous interviews with various personalities and celebrities.

Following the conference, Sir Michael begins an Australian and New Zealand tour of his one man show theatre tour, called Parky: The One Man Show.

The 2009 Australian Radio Conference will be held at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre in Sydney on October 9. Keynote speakers over the past few years Have included Imran Khan, Nigel Lythgoe, the voice of The Simpsons, Harry Shearer, John Cleese, Sir Bob Geldof, Barry Humphries, astronaut, Buzz Aldrin, Clive James and director Bruce Beresford.
