Phil Quinney honoured at New Zealand Radio Awards

Prior to the 2023 New Zealand Radio Awards, Taranaki sports broadcaster Phil Quinney’s boss checked in to see if he was attending. Quinney replied yes without realising that he was to be awarded for services to broadcasting.

Quinney told the New Zealand Herald:

“It was a real surprise and actually really humbling to be recognised in this way. I am lucky, I love what I do.”

Starting in radio in 1984, Quinney used to play commentator as a kid watching the cricket coverage. His Saturday morning local sports show is on NZME radio station Newstalk ZB.
