The Prime Minister only calls important people. He put in a private phone call to Indonesia’s president last weekend to stop a boat full of refugees, and he called Launceston 89.3 LAFM’s breakfast announcers Greg Allan and Mel Hope, to wish Mel a very happy birthday. Kevin Rudd spoke about his recent Tassie visit and some funding announcements, as well as giving birthday wishes to Mel.

The PM joined Greg Allan for a duet of Happy Birthday To You, which caused Mel to “almost wet her trousers out of excitement.”

“You never know just who will be on the phone when you answer it, and this morning to our amazement it was the PM!” ?Mel & Greg explained to radioinfo.
