Public forum today to discuss the ACMA’s commercial radio standards review

The Australian Communications and Media Authority is holding a public forum on its review of the commercial radio standards. The forum offers any interested citizens an opportunity to consider issues involving current affairs, sponsorship and advertising regulation on commercial radio.

The forum is at 10am on Monday 10 May 2010 at the Museum of Sydney (Cnr Bridge and Phillip Streets, Sydney) and can be accessed through a live webcast or through the ACMA website (click link below).

‘The forum should promote broad discussion of the issues in the commercial radio standards review’ says ACMA Chairman Chris Chapman. ‘We are keen to hear from commercial radio listeners and invite people across the country to join the discussion and listen to the panel of experts gathered for the forum.’

Broadcaster and journalist Philip Clark will moderate the discussion with a panel including:

Angela Clark, founder of Streetcorner.com.au and former CEO, Macquarie Radio Network

Steve Ahern, international trainer, author of the textbook Making Radio and founding editor of radioinfo.

Gawen Rudder, Manager, Business Services & Advice, The Communications Council

Andrew Condon, National Board Member, Sponsorship Australasia and Managing Director, M&C Saatchi Sport and Entertainment

Jane Caro, author, broadcaster, lecturer (UWS) and creative director (Jara Consulting).

Catharine Lumby, Professor of Journalism and Director, Journalism and Media Research Centre, UNSW

Lesley Hitchens, Professor of Law and Associate Dean (Research), UTS

Michael Fraser, Professor of Law and Director of the Communications Law Centre, UTS

Members of the public and other interested parties are encouraged to participate in the forum, either in person at the Museum of Sydney, or by the live webcast through the ACMA website. The comment period for the issues paper closes on Friday 14 May 2010.
