Radio 2000 Becomes a Fully Fledged Public Service Radio Station

As of the 01st April 2008 Radio 2000 listeners will experience a new programme line-up. The new line-up promises to be fresh and exciting which will be a proudly South African delivery in its diverse nature, playing in the adult contemporary arena with an African inspired music play list.

2010 is fast approaching and Radio 2000 will be playing a leading role as the Official SABC Radio broadcaster for the FIFA 2010 Soccer World Cup. Radio 2000’s has been given the approval from the SABC group executive and the SABC board to become a truly proudly South African fully fledged public service radio station that caters for the new South Africa in all its diversity. The sound of the station will reflect and resonate the heritage and culture of South African music across all its different genres. As with all things in life with change come new opportunities and challenges. Radio 2000 would like to bid farewell to Michelle Constant, Barney Simon, Benjy Mudie, Mixael de Kock who have been with Radio 2000 over many years and have contributed to the success of the Station.

The entertaining Breakfast Show duo Nicole Da Silva & Tim Zunckel remain as the Breakfast DJ’s and are given an extra hour on the show which will air weekdays from 06h00 to 10h00. The Mid Morning show will be hosted by the female radio powerhouse KG Moeketsi who will be dealing with lifestyle topics. KG has made many milestones in her career but what stands out is the fact that she was first black female programmes manager for a commercial station and first female broadcaster for a morning show on a commercial station. The weekday midday show from 13h00-16h00 will be hosted by the smooth voiced Just Ice Ramohlola. Beyond The Game with Carol Manana and Victor K who brings you all the daily sporting action remains the same but moved to the 16h00-19h00 time slot. The new programming line-up has availed the 20h00-00h00 time channel to Kamohelo “DJ Kamza” Bako known from his 5FM days ‘I share Radio 2000’s ambition in promoting quality local content. I hope to bring my own flair to the station along with a great ear for music’ commented Kamza. Bertha Charuma and Zai Khan have been roped in to reinforce the Radio 2000 female line-up. Zai Khan started her broadcasting career at the SABC’s Lotus FM where she hosted a youth show in 1996 ‘I am thrilled to be part of the Radio 2000 line-up. I have a huge passion for sport and radio and being part of Radio 2000 fulfills this. I am also looking forward to working with talent that inspires me namely Bertha Charuma and Just Ice. I am really looking forward to it!’

Soulful brother Ernest Pillay hits the airwaves between 10h00-14h00 on a Sunday morning to warm up the day. In the spirit of talent recognition and development, midnight slots have been allocated for the sole purpose of nurturing young voices to provide a pool of readily available well trained professional radio presenters. Radio 2000 will also have a platform where African issues, will be discussed with emphasis on exploring African solutions for African problems and that will be hosted by Dr. Mohau Pheko and on the legal front , one of South Africa’s top trial Lawyer -Anand Nepual will be taking care of constitutional matters.
