Radio 97 to stream from July 1

The start of the new financial year will see more Super Radio Network stations commence streaming, beginning with Radio 97 across the Gold and Tweed Coasts.

Broadcast Operations Director George Caralis shared on LinkedIn:

“For me, this one is personal.

Radio 97 has a remarkable history that stretches back almost nine decades. Originally launched as 2MW in September 1937, the station began broadcasting from Murwillumbah, serving communities across the Northern Rivers. Today, it continues that proud tradition across the Gold Coast, Tweed and Northern Rivers on 972 AM, 104.1 FM and 103.5 FM.

In 1983, the station relocated to the Tweed Heads region, where it soon became the headquarters of my late father, Bill Caralis—Founder, Chairman, Managing Director and owner of what would become the Super Radio Network. Together with my late mum, Pam Caralis, they built what was to become Australia’s largest privately owned radio group.

Long before apps, smartphones and smart speakers, local radio connected communities through trusted voices, local news, local businesses and shared experiences.

Today, radio remains one of the last truly local and trusted forms of media.

The difference is that our listeners are no longer limited by geography.

So far the network has commenced streaming on 2SM, Real FM and 2MG MudgeeTamworth’s TMFM 95.5 and 92.9FM and Newcastle‘s 2HD and NEWFM. 2DU and Zoo FM in Dubbo also commence July 1.
