Radio rescue mounted for community station FM 99.3

A group of FM99.3 supporters are trying to get the Northern Sydney community station back on air after it went into administration last month. A volunteer group has been set up via an internet site to raise money to get the station back on air and a special fundraising broadcast was held last weekend to drum up donations.

Writing on the website radiorescue.com.au, Richard Bell says:

“A lot of presenters, sponsors, volunteers, supporters, subscribers and friends of the station are
trying to get back on air ASAP. Everyone wants to bring the community the
music, news, community announcements and discussions that have been
interrupted. Although everyone wants it sorted as soon as possible there is more to be done although there is real progress.
So once again thanks very much for the all the kind support…

Together let us mount a successful Radio Rescue!! and keep our eyes (and in radio, probably our ears as well) focused firmly on the future…”

The group has had “limited access to the Station for programming” as the Administrator continues to evaluate the position. The special program mounted last Saturday did not cost the administration anything, so was allowed to go ahead. More special programming and fundraising are planned if the Administrator allows.

The radio rescue group attended the first meeting of creditors on 5 November, where only 2 creditors were represented. At that meeting, a CBAA representative “made it clear to the Administrators that its preference is for 2NSB to recover from the present situation and that it will lend its support.”

The Administrators will not allow the group to resume live broadcasting. The BBC had been relayed to keep the transmitter open, but now automated music, sponsorship and community announcements are going to air from the station’s Radioman playout system with the approval of the administrators.
