Radio networks are still exploring podcast options with both their own and external talent.
New Zealand Media and Entertainment (NZME) radio station ZM ran a competition that’s prize was the ability to launch your own podcast. Young entrepreneur Georgia Patten won the ‘Next Podcast Network Star‘ comp and Bored to Boss – Business Stories with Georgia, produced through ZM’s Podcast Network, is the result. The podcast promises an inside look into the journeys of Kiwi business owners, aiming to inspire and empower young women in their entrepreneurial pursuits.
Ross Flahive, ZM Content Director said:
“Georgia’s podcast aligns perfectly with ZM’s commitment to engaging and empowering our loyal listeners. Bored to Boss will not only showcase Georgia’s entrepreneurial journey but also highlight stories from a diverse range of New Zealand business leaders, who will speak to Georgia about their own experiences.”
Bored to Boss – Business Stories with Georgia is out on Tuesday 23 July wherever you get your podcasts and you can follow the @boredtobosspodcast on Instagram. I think that every part of this, from competition to concept is a winner.
In Australia Emily Tresidder, the Melbourne comedian who works across the Hit Network hosting weekends on 101.9 The Fox and regional stations alongside a workdays role on HIT 91.9 Bendigo, has branched out to create a music flavoured podcast Sob to the Beat, a genre that still has plenty of growth. A guest shares a song that sparks emotion for them, and then the pair do exactly what it says on the box. And when I say “branched out”, this is Emily’s third podcast alongside a sports podcast called Court Up with Emily Tresidder and a homage to her current home, Where to BendiGO.

I like both these examples. ZM has outsourced via a competition and found the talented Georgia who can contribute much more than just a podcast to their network. Emily, already within SCA and Hit, is showing her her knowledge and interests as well as the capacity to juggle many balls. She takes with her wherever she goes an impressive audio portfolio.
There is still so much scope for podcasts and radio to work together.
