Just in time for unwanted office Kris Kringle gifts and New Year desk revamps, Tom & Buckle from K rock’s Fresh Daily launch the ‘Real Men of Geelong’ calendar for 2017.
Struck by inspiration during an ad for The Bachelorette, Buckle thought “I’m sick of trying to live up to expectations that society pushes upon the male physique in the modern era”.
Tom who is no stranger to stripping down for a radio stunt couldn’t agree more, “We’re not all ripped firemen you know?”
With that, the call out for Mr. January through to Mr. December began. Of course it couldn’t go ahead without some stipulations and a wonderful sponsor, so local restaurant RIBZ jumped on the bandwagon.
Tom laid down the rules “We want to show regular blokes everywhere that being in a calendar is about what’s inside, just as much as it is about what’s outside. Well maybe not just as much but it’s definitely a bit about what’s inside. A really little bit.”
So they did away with the six packs, said “NO” to waxed chests and “YES” to big smiles, beer gut’s and back hair from a phenomenal 11 ‘Real Men’ who jumped at the opportunity to represent Geelong and The Surf Coast.
It wasn’t all for laughs either. “If that doesn’t give you enough of a warm, fuzzy feeling, we’re raising much needed funds for Give Where You Live as well. Double the warmth, double the fuzz” said Tom Lewis.
The Give Where You Live Foundation raises funds every year and distributes them to local organisations working to address the effects of disadvantage in our community.
Business Partnerships Manager from Give Where You Live, Jessica Young was ecstatic about the initiative ‘It’s such a great way to give back to our community AND have a laugh at the same time!’
The calendar can be purchased in store at RIBZ, Give Where You Live and K rock Reception for $14.95.
