Reporters Snowed Under with Radio Work

Snow reporters in the New South Wales skifields are having a crazily busy week thanks to a fresh dump of the white stuff over the past 48 hours.

More than 25 centimetres has fallen in Thredbo Alpine Resort in that time, and more than 35 centimetres at Perisher. The arrival of the snow is timely as holidays are just beginning for New South Wales and Queensland schools.

Thredbo’s Director of Marketing Angus Thomson says the media team has been flat out delivering information across all media, and radio coverage is a key component of their work with half hourly changes in the weather.

Thomson says the snow started falling on Sunday night.

After a huge dump it’s all systems go, with radio and TV calling up to get footage, quotes and interviews so the team really goes into overdrive,” he says.

There’s such a high energy around the resort and it’s a great time to be working and keeping busy because everyone’s running on adrenalin.”

Thredbo snow reporters are heard on radio up and down the eastern seaboard.

Thomson says the team is a mixed of new and more experienced hands:

We have a few experienced campaigners who come back to work in the media department year after year, but it certainly is a great entry into the broader media market for young aspiring reporters and we’ve had plenty of former staff go on to high profile roles elsewhere in the media.”
