Reuter’s scholarship for ABC EP

Peter McEvoy has won the ABC’s Scholarship to the Reuter Foundation in Oxford.

McEvoy started his career as a radio reporter, later being promoted to EP of news and current affairs at triple j.

For the past seven years he has EPed Media Watch on ABC TV.

The Reuter Foundation program brings together more than 20 established journalists from around the world for the purpose of providing further opportunities to develop their skills.

At Oxford, McEvoy will research media ethics, particularly accountability, responsibility and interactivity.

His underlying thesis is that good ethical journalism relies not only on holding journalists accountable to a code of practice, but on building a culture of public responsibility in media organisations and promoting dialogue between journalists and the audience.

ABC Managing Director Mark Scott has told radioinfo that the project will give McEvoy the opportunity to build on insights gained through working with Media Watch: “[It] will make a valuable and timely contribution to the issue of journalistic ethics in the digital age.”
