The first Xtra Insights survey in three years of Ipswich in Queensland has shown that local radio still rules. River 94.9, who last year expanded to include a second radio studio in Springfield, as well as in North Ipswich, is No 1 with a 33.6 audience share 10+, and up by 4.0. Second is Brisbane’s B105, down 1.3 to 13.4. Jumping from 5th into 3rd is Triple M Brisbane, up 3.8 to 10.1.
For every day part it is a mostly one horse race for ARN owned River. Breakfast with Marnie and Campo was up 3.9 to 33.0. There were also gains of 6.5 and 7.3 to 36.0 and 33.1 for Drive with Hinksy and the 20 20 Retro Countdown with Aaron Stevens respectively. Hinksy is local, Stevens hosts the countdown alongside his breakfast show on 4RO.
Having lived in and around Brisbane, Ipswich is similar in ways to Campbelltown, who Xtra Insights surveyed for the first time in October last year. Both regions are able to access the capital city stations. In Campbelltown their local C91.3 sat behind Sydney’s KIIS 106.5. The people of Ipswich and surrounding SE Queensland love their local station.
River 94.9 Content Director Drew Chapman said:
“Our local team have done an amazing job of connecting with our local listeners not giving them any reason to listen to our many competitors.”
With General Manager David Wiltshire adding:
“Knowing we have the support of our listeners means that we are doing the right thing by them, and we will continue to do so.”
River’s cumulative audience grew by 20K. This was surpassed by Triple M who saw a 25,000 increase showing that their investment into the Brisbane surrounds is paying off for them too.
