RTRFM welcomes Annika Moses as its new Music Director

Perth-based community radio station RTRFM has announced that Annika Moses will be stepping up as the station’s Music Director next month, following the recent exit of Matthew Perrett.

Moses is a longtime presenter at RTRFM who has helped to broaden WA’s musical horizons through her work behind the scenes at Tone List and its corresponding festival Audible Edge, as well as by facilitating community songwriting and recording projects with Indigenous communities in Fitzroy Crossing, Punmu, Parnngurr, Kunawarritji and Parnpajinya (Newman).

Many listeners to RTRFM will also recognise her as the artist behind the solo projects Nika Mo and Great Statue, and as a member of the alt-rock outfit Didion’s Bible.

“After seven years of volunteering with the station, I’m honoured to take on the Music Director role,” said Moses.

“RTR has been the life-force of the local music community ever since I hit the scene as a young aspiring musician myself, so it’s wild to now be putting on the director’s hat.”

“With a near 50-year legacy, and Matt Perrett’s phenomenal four years of directorship, I’ve certainly inherited some big shoes! But I’m excited for the challenge and looking forward to working alongside the incredible RTR team.”

RTRFM General Manager Simon Miraudo said “Annika is not just one of WA’s great musical talents; she’s one of Australia’s best and most exciting songwriters and artists, and we were already blessed to have her on board as a curator and presenter.”

“But she is also a dedicated champion of the WA music scene, be it as a collaborator, a mentor, a facilitator, or a fan, and we’re so excited to have her on staff to uncover and platform the other amazing talents in this state.”

“We believe she is well equipped to step into the considerable gap left by Matt Perrett and help us chart the musical direction of the station in the future, in direct collaboration with each of our volunteer presenters.”
