Sattler Sacked

A “flabbergasted” Sattler axed over yesterday’s questioning.

Following his well publicised line of questioning of Prime Minister Julia Gillard yesterday, 6PR drive presenter, Howard Sattler has now been sacked.

A media release from 6PR says:

“During an interview on the Drive Program yesterday, presenter Howard Sattler pursued a line of questioning with Prime Minister Julia Gillard that was disrespectful to the office and person of the Prime Minister and was entirely inappropriate.

Radio 6PR apologises unreservedly to Ms Gillard and Mr Mathieson for allowing these matters to be raised on the Drive program.

In the wake of yesterday’s interview, Radio 6PR suspended Mr Sattler from broadcasting pending a review of the matter today. The station has now decided to terminate Mr Sattler’s engagement.”

Sattler, who has Parkinson’s Disease, had another 6 months to run on his contract. He intends to take legal action against 6PR owners Fairfax Media.

Current political circumstances including the ‘blue tie’ speech made by the Prime Minister at a women’s Labor fundraiser that was heavily criticised as ‘playing the gender card’, as well as the sexist LNP fundraiser menu scandal, have meant the gender issue has been in the news all week.

Sattler is “flabbergasted” over his sacking and believes his many years of service to the station are being overlooked saying: “I’ve given 28 years of my life to this station. I don’t want a medal or anything for it but I’ve done a lot of good for a lot of people. I’d like to think I could have done more good.”

Sattler told Perth media outlets this afternoon he is sorry he offended the Prime Minister, but has no regrets.

Channel Ten news reporter Alice Pooley tweeted about the incident, suggesting:

Howard Sattler says he hoped to ‘help’ the PM by asking if her partner was gay @TenNewsPerth

Looking back on it, what could the Prime Minister have answered to Sattler’s question? Adam Hills has a sugggestion.
