Southern Cross Austereo Brisbane takes out Lord Mayor’s Business Awards again

Southern Cross Austereo Brisbane has taken two of the top titles at the 2011 Lord Mayor’s Business Awards,  winning the coveted awards for Employer of Choice and Corporate Citizenship.

Fiercely competitive and attracting a record number of entries from the leading businesses in Brisbane, the 2011 Lord Mayor’s Business Awards was a night of glamour, recognising serious business achievement, staged at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Southern Cross Austereo Brisbane General Manager Richard Barker has told radioinfo a balanced workplace where home and personal life complements a professional calling is essential to ensuring productive, passionate and effective staff. Austereo is “committed to maintaining that balance,” says Barker.

“Taking out the Employer of Choice Award is important. Southern Cross Austereo Brisbane, through the stations B105 and Triple M,  prides itself on recruiting and retaining the very best people. Being recognised for our success in doing this, and in maintaining that very important home-life balanc,  amid an outstanding field of entrants and finalists,  is extremely exciting for everyone.

“Over the past 12 months, 19,100 people applied for 191 advertised jobs with Southern Cross Austereo. In Brisbane more than 3500 people applied for 34 positions, and the station placed 17 intern students while fielding hundreds of requests. People want to work here and this reputation is one the company is insanely proud of because, without people, Southern Cross Austereo has no voice.”

The 2011 Corporate Citizenship Award was won by Triple M – in recognition of the fact that over the past 12 months, the Triple M team worked over their core charter to deliver almost $1million in cash, goods, services and support to those in need in Brisbane, through a mix of fully underwritten charity events, support programs, sponsorships and 22 famous “Cage Crusades”.

“From staging the Triple M’s Classic Rugby for Christchurch in March to the Triple M Mandate for Men’s Health, the CEO Sleepout, Youngcare initiatives and the Give a Shed for Grantham, Triple M’s corporate citizenry resonates with staff, clients and indeed the people of Brisbane on many levels. This is an award of which we are all immensely proud,” says Barker.

“Thank you to Brisbane for working with us to help those in need.”
