The Spirit Radiothon raises over 50,000 dollars

In a good example of cross-media cooperation for charity, more than $50,000 was raised for Telethon by the Spirit Radio Network’s Radiothon.

The generosity of regional Western Australia was highlighted last weekend with the Spirit network’s 24 hour live radio show featuring some of Australia’s biggest stars. It was the first of its kind in WA.

Special guests included Rove McManus, host of Deal Or No Deal Andrew O’Keefe, songstress Delta Goodrem, rockers Evermore, Dancing with the Stars winner Johnny Ruffo, Perth’s very own Timomatic and many more big names from the world of Australian music and entertainment.

Radiothon host and Spirit presenter Justin Thomson thanked listeners for their contribution and while the official total is yet to be determined, it looks set to be upwards of $50,000:

“The Spirit would like to thank regional WA for getting behind Radiothon for Telethon. Through the live broadcast and Radioathon events in Broome, Port Hedland, Karratha, Geraldton, Bunbury and the South West, regional WA has raised thousands for Telethon. An official amount will be announced in November.”

Telethon General Manager Steve Mummery said it is great that Spirit Radio has become a member of the Telethon Family after reaching out to regional Western Australians who are already famous for supporting Telethon.

With Telethon just around the corner, Mummery said it is a good time to gain perspective on how fortunate some of us are. “It’s important that everyone take a moment to consider how lucky they are if their kids are well.  Things can change very quickly and when they do, it’s great to know that there is help out there provided by Telethon.”

While it was a gruelling 24 hours for Thomson he said it was extremely rewarding contributing to such a fantastic cause. “While a full day of live radio was tough on me, it is nothing compared to what WA’s sick children go through on a daily basis. We will do it all again for Telethon next year, bigger and better.”
