Star and Shannon make April Fools of Wagga

radioinfo has received more stories of April Fools Day jokes. Star FM’s Breakfast duo Pottsy and Leighton fooled Wagga with a prank about Shannon Noll.

Mike Perso explains:

Cashing in on the flavour of the month aspect of Shannon Noll, who has connections with our area, we pulled a Shannon scam.

After teasing for a couple of weeks that Shannon might be coming to the area–which is true– we played Shannon Noll’s “What About Me” this morning, and then announced that “Shannon” was in town this morning, and would be at Star FM and available to sign autographs, have photo’s taken etc before coming on-air.

For the whole hour we drove this, we where EXCEPTIONALLY careful not to refer to SHANNON NOLL, we simply used the term SHANNON.

Shannon will be here to do this, Shannon will be here to do that….

Well, we had a crowd like you wouldn’t believe out the front of the station all waiting for Shannon.

We had Mums and Kids in PJ’s, we had school buses pull in, we had one guy ride his bike in from a small town about 20k’s out of town.

We had some girls from the local Catholic Boarding School ring us in tears to say that the nuns wouldn’t let them out to meet Shannon.

Just before we did the sting, we had a couple of crosses from out the front with the crowd. All that typical groupie type stuff reaction.

Then before we introduced Shannon, we got the crowd whipped up into a frenzy with the WE WANT SHANNON, WE WANT SHANNON chant, and then we introduced Shannon.

The Shannon we brought out was, female, by the name of Shannon Johnstone.

Got stacks of people sucked in, and we’ve still been getting calls about it during the morning. Worked a treat, but bloody hard not being able to say NOLL or HE.

To calm the savage beasts we had a whole stack of McDonald stuff to give away to the people who came up to see SHANNON.
