Sunny Coast radio show hands the mic to AI in live on-air experiment

Something unusual (and just a tad controversial) is about to unfold on the Sunshine Coast airwaves – and it could well end up going pear-shaped.

This Friday (May 8), 91.9 SEA FM’s Drive show hosts Elly and Taz will introduce a brand-new co-host … and it’s not human.

For one afternoon, Elly Chaney and Taz Eriksen will hand part of their live broadcast over to an AI-powered ‘personality,’ designed to jump into conversations, respond to callers, and attempt to keep pace with the unpredictable nature of live radio.

Whether this enhances the show or completely derails it remains to be seen.

“The only robot I’ve ever liked is my robovac, so I’m off this new co-host from the get-go. We’ll see how long it lasts,” said Elly.

“Redundancies are already rampant in radio … what are we doing?!” asked Taz?

The bold on-air experiment taps into a growing industry conversation: Can artificial intelligence replicate real human chemistry, timing, and humour – or does it fall apart when faced with the chaos of live radio?

Listeners are invited to tune in and judge for themselves as the experiment unfolds live on air.

Further details, including how the AI performs under pressure, will be revealed following the broadcast.
