Surprising radio insights in Singapore Media Academy course

For those of you who think that radio is losing its luster, due to stiff competition from both traditional and new media, you are in for a surprise, reports Heng Kae In, APD of 88.3 Jia FM in Singapore.

23 senior broadcasters and managers who attended the 3-day course Master Class: Making Radio Your Business organized by SMA and IMBA, conducted by renowned radio trainer Steve Ahern could attest to that.

Putting aside station, and even organization rivalry, the attendees learnt to think beyond radio airwaves, engaged in topics like talent management and talk break planning, as well as shared their personal experiences in this profession.

For those who have been in the industry for more than decades, the course helped to rekindle their passion for radio. Mrs Lee Foong Ming, VP of 93,8 Live said that the course taught her to “break it to make it better, but watch those egos.”

As for the newer ones who are assuming different roles, Mr Ding Zhi Yong, APD of YES 933 agreed that “the course is useful because I’m moving from the front of the microphone to management role, and I gained knowledge about transmission and more.” Ms Daphne, producer on 93.8Live also mentioned that the course enabled her to think in terms of digital accessibility.

In short, this 3-day course by Australian Steve Ahern has served to remind the radio folks to go back to the basics, that Radio is place where audio dreams are beyond the imagination.
