95.3 Coast FM the ace of Warrnambool – Xtra Insight

Xtra Insights have surveyed radio listeners in Warrnambool, Victoria. The region is serviced by five ABC stations, including the local ABC South West Victoria, and two from the ACE Radio Network, 95.3 Coast FM, the No 1 with 41.8% of the audience saying they listen to it most, and 3YB second with an unchanged 16%.

Gabi (James) and Dan (Robinson – both main image) on The Coast’s syndicated breakfast show have 37% of the audience listening to them most. 3YB’s The Morning Rush, that’s Sean Cullen, Matthew Monk and Niamh McMahon were second with 18.1%. Combined the audience for the two stations is 73.4% of the local population.

Coast FM and 3YB FM General Manager Michael Duncan said:

“These results highlight the loyalty of our local audience and the value of providing quality radio content. Coast FM and 3YB FM are proud to serve Warrnambool and the surrounding communities with the music, news and information that matter most.”

The last survey of Warrnambool was three years ago, and another three before that to pre Covid times. There are some interesting changes across the six years. People who are surveyed can pick other or none. Compared to six years ago the percentage of people who are choosing commercial radio or the ABC have dropped. In 2022’s survey it was a significant move to other listening or options. This survey though saw a healthy (near 12K) return to cume listening to Coast and 3K to 3YB. Gabi and Dan were back up to the nearly the same levels that Matt Monk was in 2019. This wasn’t the same good survey for the local ABC. It nearly halved its listenership (2.7% preferred) with weekend listeners and 55-64 audience dropping away.
